Diane's
interest is in black and white photography:
"It is the magic of how light falls on a subject, the
freezing of a moment in time, the drama of an image and
its emotional impact, along with the ability to manipulate
the many variables available in the darkroom that make
photography so enthralling. Digital photography has not
yet seduced me for use in my art photography. The reverse
seems to hold: in addition to working with silver-gelatine
papers, I am fascinated by the effects of
platinum/palladium printing, with its wide tonal range,
the beauty of the brush strokes, and the effects on many
varieties of paper. Also using some of these images in
collage opens up other possibilities."
The photographs
on this site represent several areas of interest: rural Spain, rural
life in the South and Appalachia, Israel, China, libraries and their
inhabitants, musicians teaching, portraits, and cats.
